About Bootcamp
Our Bootcamp is a 10-12 week training program designed to build strong, confident, and safe roller derby athletes from the ground up. Skaters will learn essential skills, rules, and gameplay strategies needed to participate at a competitive level.
The first session is an off-skates Orientation, where you’ll meet the league, learn what to expect, and get set up for success. After that, practices move onto skates and take place twice weekly at the Medford Armory. Skaters are encouraged to arrive early to gear up and warm up before each session.
Gear Requirements
To participate, skaters must have the following gear:
Helmet
Mouth guard
Wrist guards
Elbow pads
Knee pads
Quad roller skates
We offer a limited selection of loaner gear (including skates) for those just getting started. A $50 deposit is required to check out loaner equipment.
WFTDA Insurance
All Bootcamp participants are required to carry Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) insurance. This specialized coverage is required for participation in practices, scrimmages, and games.
Annual Cost: $75
Renewal: Required yearly to remain eligible to skate and compete
You can purchase your WFTDA insurance using the button below.
Dues
Bootcamp dues are $60 for the full 3-month program. This includes:
Two weekly, 2-hour training sessions
Dedicated mentorship from an experienced SO Derby skater
Access to curated resources for derby knowledge, strength training, and building resilient, derby-ready bodies
Skater Progression
Every skater’s journey is unique. Some progress quickly, while others benefit from repeating Bootcamp to fully develop the skills needed for safe, confident gameplay. Both paths are equally valued.
Bootcamp participants focus on mastering foundational skills and rules. Once a skater passes their foundational skills assessment, they are eligible to connect with team captains and begin attending team practices.
Referee & Officials Training
Not all heroes wear skates… or throw hits.
Skaters interested in officiating can join the Officials Training Program after passing their foundational skills and rules test. Officials are never required to participate in contact skating.
Officials-in-training gain hands-on experience by assisting at practices and scrimmages while learning the rules, positioning, and flow of the game from our Officiating Committee.
